Thank You Letter from a Grateful Student to Her Sponsor

Dear J Dempsey,

I hope you are well. I am also great together with my family. I thank God for this year despite having some challenges but I have had some great moments and achievements too.

I was able to go for my hip replacement surgery which was very successful and I had a great recovery journey though am yet to fully recover but I can now move without any pain or difficulty and walk around without using the walking aids. I am optimistic that before the end of this year, with continued physiotherapy exercises, I will be able to walk as normal as before. Getting better and the great progress has been one of my greatest motivations to do the physiotherapy exercises, despite them being boring and tiresome. This is one of the greatest things that has ever happened in my life and every time I reminisce  on how long the journey has been, I have all the reasons to thank you for being there for me and  supporting me financially. The sacrifice you made is great and I really do appreciate.

I was also able to join medical college and now I am pursuing a course in Clinical medicine and surgery at Uzima University of health sciences, a medical school in Kisumu, one of the cities in Kenya. My experience here has been a very interesting one since I get to learn more about the human body and everything related to human health. Gaining more complex and diverse  knowledge is one of the best experiences and every day I yearn to get better and know more. I have also gotten to interact with more people and make new friends. Being in college has also taught me how to be financially responsible unlike in secondary school because I have to learn how to use the funds wisely to balance between food, getting new clothes and exploring new places and new activities and other things.

This year I also had a chance of meeting Dr. Brian Bell who came all the way to Kenya  to  have a word with us and have a meeting with us. It was a great privilege meeting him for the first time and we had interesting sessions discussing all the issues around sponsorship and other emerging issues. I  also interacted with him at a personal level and he complimented me on my  progress after the surgery and I felt so good, that boosted my confidence a lot.

The year is coming to an end and that marks the end of the semester too. We will be beginning our end semester exams this month. I am really looking forward to the holidays, I guess it will be a relief after all that have happened this year. This year I will be going into the holidays happy and excited unlike the previous year when I was in a lot of pain and all the humiliation that resulted from the physical disability due to my shortening limb. Many thanks to you.

I lost my previous email account and I was unable to retrieve it, this is my new email account .I would like to wish you a happy holiday and all the best even as the year ends. May the Lord bless for your kindness and commitment to ensuring my physical wellbeing and my educational continuity.

Many thanks,

Yours sincerely,

Anita Okumbe.
